Folder Sorting in Microsoft Windows 10

Skip - I always appreciate your posts which are most helpful.

I hope you don't mind, but I have one question I have asked Windows about to no avail and even to a couple of computer junkies I know but have yet to find an answer to. Since you already know that I am a retired pastor and I do more Biblical writing than anything else, I would like to know if there is a way I can simply sort my Bible-book-named folders in the order in which they appear in the Bible. Microsoft always sorts them alphabetically and I understand that, but I would sure love to store my Bible folders in Bible order without having to search for a particular bible-book folder to find a file I may have saved. I am doing more and more Bible writing and I just do not prefer alphabetical order, since I learned all my Bible books in the order they are presented in the Bible. Is this a possibility or am I just barking up the wrong proverbial tree?

I enter a Tag information for some of my files and I am able to display them and sort them by Tag.

Thanks Andy and this makes sense. However, my ability to follow your instructions is limited and I followed instructions to regedit and creating command sub-key but from that point on, I'm confused. Because I have never really gotten into the registry editor much I basically have to know each move exactly as it is supposed to be done. I don't want to mess up my registry.

Andy, what I am trying to accomplish is the ability to sort my files in folders (Bible order) so that if I want to see a file or files related to that book I can simply go to my list of folders (in Bible order) and select that individual folder. Am I making sense here?

I don't know if that will help you since I only mess with Tags for files, but that's what I did. It may work for you with folders (one can hope...)

I set the (file) Tag by right-click, Properties - Details

Then I can display the (file) Tags and sort them here.
Right-click on any of the headers (like Name) and add Tags to the columns display in Explorer:

I'm sorry but this is just not happening for me. My main objective is to sort either files or folders in Bible Book order. I have memorized the Bible books over my years and I just want my files to appear in the order the books appear in the Bible. Maybe I'm just asking too much here. I am just hoping someone can figure this out for me.

I know it makes sense to you since you are the expert in this field, but (to me) “Bible Book order” doesn’t mean anything.

If you have this:

1 John
1 Peter
1 Thessalonian
1 Timothy
2 Corinthians
2 John[/tt]
And you would like to have it in other order, is it possible to re-name the Folders?
You can add “Bible Book order” information to the beginning of the names of the folders. This way they will display the way you want, like:
[tt]1 1 Corinthians
1 2 Corinthians
2 1 John
2 2 John
3 1 Peter
4 1 Thessalonian
5 1 Timothy[/tt]

(I know this is wrong, but it is just an example)

If you can, you can simply have New Testament as 1, Old Testament as 2, and the rest numbered as follow:

Yes, the folders can be renamed and I see what you did here. So the folders should sort by the numbers actually rather than the name of the book. Is this what you are alluding to? Sounds reasonable to me. I'll try it out. Thank you Andy so much for the help. This is very helpful. I don't know why I didn't do that to begin with.

Folders are sorted alphabetically, numbers are just easy to use.
Instead of 1 for New Testament and 2 for Old Testament, you may choose NT for New Testament and OT for Old Testament. N is before T, so New T. will be displayed before Old T.
Sometimes you cannot see the forest for the trees...
