For last two months i'm constalty getting calls from my clients that when they create shortcuts in MS Office 2000 under word or Excel their shortcuts are there only for a day or two and then it's not there. Basically they have re create their shorcuts all over again.

I have installed all the latest patches, only for MS office as well as for Win 2k pro.

Please if someone could help that will be great.

regards,
Afgan

Hi Dreanboat,

What I meant by creating shortcuts are when the user creates or open a folder on the network or try to save a file under word/Excel there is a option where you can add the folder to you favourites. By doing this the folder or file can be saved under favourites and when you want to open the file in future all you have to do is click on the file under your favourites.

Saves a lot time of browsing time looking for a particular file on the network.

For example to add a file to your favourites under MS Word:
1. In the Look in box, click the drive that contains the file or folder you want to create a shortcut for.
2. In the folder list, locate and open the folder that contains the file or folder you want.
3. Select the file or folder you want to add a shortcut for.
4. On the toolbar, click Tools, and then click Add to Favorites.

Afghan

Ok...then it sounds to me like they don't have rights to write to their registry.

They wouldn't happen to lose them whenever they reboot, would they?

A reboot would *put their registry back* if they do not have rights to it. Anne Troy

Hi Dreamboat,

Thank for your help. I have checked the user rights and all users given sufficient rights (Authenticate Users).

I have also created a shortcut and rebooted the system to see if anything will happen, but the shortcut was still there.

According to users the shortcuts disappears may once a week or sometime its there for few weeks and when they their computer on in the mornings the shortcuts will be missing????

There are no exact patterns to this; it can’t be network related problem because all the machines are turned off over the night. This problem is getting very common now among the network users and I get roughly 3 – 4 call per day. In all the cases the user tells me the same thing, their shortcuts were missing when the came to work this morning…………

If you have any other suggestion that can make life easier that will be much appreciated.

Regards

Are they clearing their history in IE or something??

I don't get it. WHERE are they saving them? Anywhere special? Have someone do a test for you....make shortcuts in a special folder on their desktop...COPY the folder.
Do they both disappear or just one of them??

I don't get it. :( Anne Troy
