Hi,

running a G5/10.3.2 with an external HD for all our files, networked with a G4/10.2.8 and a G3/10.2.8.

Unable to save docs (mainly QX6) back into whatever subfolder on the HD from the G4 and G3 - says that I don't have enough access privileges.

Have set up each mac to login automatically (therefore no user groups down to a min.) and the HD info for permissions is:

Owner: (mac user name)
Access: Read & write
Group: unknown
Access: Read & write
Other: Read & write

Have also checked ignore ownership on this volume and clicked apply to enclosed items which should sort the lot out?

Any ideas as Help doesn't seem to...

What happens when you update your software to the current version? (OSX 10.3.3 and Quark 6.1a)

Will check out the 10.3.3 update - am on QX6.1a throughout already (though am unsure to take the lesser macs to Panther, just looks and feels really clumsy...

I was only commenting on updating minor system patches. 10.3 should be up to 10.3.3 and your 10.2 systems are where they should be. Even though your G3 may be pushing the limit in OSX, some have noticed a performance increase with 10.3.

Could you try another type of networking? Even though I often do not have Windows PCs on the network, I sometimes jump to Samba/Windows file sharing on stubborn network issues.

I have the same problem. Everything that comes off one of our computers is automatically labeled as Read Only and I have to manually change it. All systems are running latest OS and updates but no matter how I set the one computer's permissions, it remains read only. As this system is the main one that all our jobs come in on... Doing this 30-40 times a day gets really annoying, to say the least.

I am having problems with ownership & permissions also. I want everything to be open to all. I applied R&W for all to the HD and enclosed. When I create a new folder it is a read only for others by default. How do I stop this.
