I have set up permissions on both mailboxes. Also folder visible is checked...but I still get unable to expand folders displayed. can anyone help???

Folder Visible on a PF is a permission independant of the permissions to do anything else like edit or read the folder. It is entirely possible to see the folder in the hierarchy but be unable to read the contents of the folder in the right-hand-pane.

Check the folder permissions from the Client Permissions button in Admin.

Hi, the folder is sent items folder within outlook - not a personal folder.

Could you explain fully what you're trying to do, as my assumptions appear invalid?

I apologise for not being clear. This is the scenario:-

Manager wishes to share his sent items folder with his secretary. I have set up permissions on the manager's sent items folder for the secretary. I have made the sent items folder visible. I have added the managers mailbox within the secretary's mailbox.I have tested this out on my pc (exchange admin user) and it works, but when the secretary tries to view the managers sent items mailbox "unable to expand folders" is displayed in the right-hand pane.

The secretary can't access sub-folders of the manager's mailbox (even if granted access to the folder correctly) if the secretary has no access to the manager's mailbox object. Add the same permissions there as well.

I have added permissions for the mailbox too. Still no joy.

What Role are you assigning to the secretary on the mailbox and sent items permissions tab?

Folder editor role. i've even tried folder owner permissions.

Then you may have some problems with this mailbox. As a test, can you create two new mailboxes on your server, and test the access you're trying to create on the new mailboxes? If this works it proves a problem with your original mailboxes.

just to say thanks very much for your help. it was the permissions at toplevel which i hadn't set.
