Every once in a while, a folder will pop up on my screen for no reason. The weird thing is this folder has no menu bar to close it with. It doesn't show up under processes or applications, and the only way to close it is to maximize a program already running, minimize it, then hit alt+f4. This is terribly annoying... please help!!

ScriptKiddy- lol, sounds like you installed a type of spyware or adware and it constantly keeps trying to place a folder on your desktop, i've seen many of these, if your at a web site and it prompts you to install something in order to continue and then it annoys you with crap. If you can find out the name of the folder or the file, .exe, .tmp, ect thats producing it and manually delete it. If all else fails sets it attributes to hidden, i deleted the links folder in IE favorites and it keeps coming back unless i set it to hidden.

hope this helps

Tom

I never click OK on those pop-up things... I've kept my comp clean from any junk like that. The thing is... I can't even click the folder, right click it, there is no way to interact with the folder.

Download Ad-aware (if you haven't already got it) which is freeware and will remove spyware from your machine.

Go into internet options/advanced tab/ and uncheck "Enable install on demand (Internet Explorer)" and also "Enable install on demand (Other)". With these options enabled websites can install things without your permission.

If a program wants to automatically download from a website you'll be prompted about it now.

Here's something else you can look at too. It uses your hosts file to block unwanted ads.
