There are two things in Windows (I’m using XP Pro) that bug me. They may or may not be related.

1). This has to do with the “Views” (the contents) of folders. When I open a folder the contents are usually Tiles (large icons). Occasionally the contents are Icons. Rarely are the contents Details. I prefer the Details view in most cases so; I have to manually change to Details view when I open a folder. And I have to do this every time I open the same folder. Does anyone know how I can set up the Views to open in Details permanently?

2). In the Details view there is additional information that can be listed for each file, i.e., Name; Size; Type; Date Modified; Attributes; etc. By right clicking on that listing bar, one can add or remove the details they want. However, it is not permanent! When you go back to that folder again, the detail listing has reverted back to how it was. Again, does anyone know how to make the details listing permanent?

I know both these things can be done because I see they are different on different computers. So there has to be a way to set them permanently. But I don’t know how to do it.

Go to a folder, change the view etc. to how you like it, the go Tools -> Folder Options. Go to the View tab and click "Apply to All Folders".

In the above mentioned place, you also have a check box in the list (Advanced Settings) to "Remember each folder's view setting".

Thanks for the help.

As usual, I feel pretty stupid. I did I did the view setting and the Advanced settings but not at the same time.

Folders are straightened out now.
