We have a pc that the floppy drive type was changed. If you went into explorer the drive said it was a 5 1/4 and it is a 3 1/2. If you tried to save to it, it was give you the error "cannot access retry or cancel". I went into setup and the drive was correctly set as a 3 1/2 there. In device manager the floppy disk under disk drives was not there. I finally disabled the drive in setup rebooted the pc then went into setup, set it as a 3 1/2 then rebooted again. This fixed it. How did it's type get changed to a 5 1/4 in the first place and how did the floppy disk get removed from device manager. Could it be a virus? Thanks for any help!

Which operating system?
PC specs? I pledge to share any information I have and advise to the best of my knowledge based on the information provided.

It is a AMD K6-II, 48MB RAM, 4GB Hard Drive with Win98 2nd Edition. A couple of weeks ago in Outlook express a new message rule was mysteriously created. It sent all new e-mails with attachments to the deleted items box. We are not sure if someone created this new message rule or if a virus caused it. We have deleted the rule and it has not come back so far it has been 2 weeks. Thank you for your help!

I am looking into this, but I am curious to know if you are using anti-virus, and if so, which one?
Has it been updated recently?

I do not have a virus checker on this pc I am purchasing mcafee to load onto it. Thank you for your help!

Good idea to install and update your anti virus software.
Make sure when you install it, that you go into the preferences and turn ON your options, including telling it to scan all files when it scans.

Still haven't found too much on this, but will continue to look for you.
