Today the floppy icon just dissappeared from my computer and it still shows up in the device manager but I cannot use it as it is not being an option anywhere????I have Win XP Pro

Have you (or anyone else)recently used a "tweaking" program? They can be used to hide drives. If not, download "Tweak UI for XP" and see if the drive is marked as "hidden". In Device Manager, try removing the drive and re-boot to see if the computer re-installs it.

Also, try posting in Win XP forum to see if anyone there has an answer.

I have had no problems in the past ever using windows 95,98,ME and XP. But I just installed the upgrade to windows xp pro and now my floppy isn't being detected. I can boot from floppy still, the system device manager it shows up being there, just not anywhere else in win xp pro.
I will try removing from device manager today and rebooting and see if that helps and also I will try seeing if it hid itself by getting tweakui today. I tried re-installing win xp pro upgrade and it didn't help. If i removed xp pro I know it will detect again because I never had that problem.

I will see if the other suggestions help me, and if all else fails I can try a new floppy because its very old though I will try that last.

Check in BIOS that is where I discovered my problem it was not selected in cmos advanced options. When you boot up press Delete 2 or 3 times and it will bring you to bios. If you have never been there before be very carefull not to mess around. go to cmos options and look to see if floppy drive 3.5 had a dot in it.

Hello.

Thanks. I went home and found my floppy was disabled in bios.
