After installing RedHat 7.3 I see that the icons for floppy and cd-rom drive are missing. One other strange thing which might me related is that there are a lot of menu entries which are invisible. They show up in kmenueditor (and are not marked hidden), but not in the menu. If I modify one item and save it, then it shows. And a .desktop file is saved in the users .kde/share/applnk/ directory... Can someone explain this?

If I remember correctly somewhere during the setup (first login to KDE?) it asked how elaborate the menus etc. must be, e.g minimal or everything.

But it was at least a month ago, I really cannot remember the exact details anymore.

Hi.

Thanks for the answer. However, these icons and menu items do not show up even if one selects the option which gives you the most icons. And anyway, I think these options only deal with the icons on the bottom panel.

In the meantime I have found out how to add icons for floppy and cd-rom. (right click on desktop and select "Make new->CD/DVD-ROM Device").
