Flattening a BOM

Do you mean to make it single level? Interesting concept but no.

Don - yep that's exactly what I mean. Developing reports on the BMPRDSTR has always been tough, and Crystal's bulit 'hierarchical' reporting function helps a little, but not enough. I'm thinking a stored procedure to flatten the BOM would make reporting a snap for resellers and customers alike.

I posted a function that would accept a parent item and return all the components for all levels of the bill. Changing this function to a stored proc would be a minor change. I don't know crystal well enough to say what would and would not work for you.

here is the thread.

Please post the changes that you make. I would like to know what is required for crystal.

Hope this helps.

Peter,

Check out my website and the Macola tools section. I have a utility called Bom Builder which you could use to do this, although I am not sure how much work it would be.

At any rate check this out and let me know your thoughts.
