I have a Flash voicemail that stopped working after a short power fail on the weekend. I usually have revived these in the past but this one I can't get back up. The phone system is MICS rel.1 T1 software. the voice mail is ver 1.9 or 2.0 can't quite remember. Anyhow after arriving onsite 1st, I unplugged the Flash VM for a minute and plugged it back in, light came on, waited 5 min. and tried the feat. 981 and got innactive feature. 2nd I tried feat. 9*1 to ID feat. code range and got inactive feature. 3rd I tried feat. 903 to reset the feat. code range and got inactive feature. 4th I tried power down again removed the sw card and reseated it power back up. wait 5 min. and got same response after dialing feature codes. I did check the port with a M7310 and the port works. We also left the unit unplugged overnight and power back up this morning waited 10-15 min.with same result. The last thing I am going to do today is take the VM apart and short the capacitors on the board to erase all memory and try to reinstall. When these systems fail cause of power problems is it the software card that gets corrupt or the actual main unit? I realize the system will likly need to be replaced. Thanks in advance for any input. Dave

I would hook it up to a laptop and watch it boot with a serial cable and Hyperterminal. 1200 8n1

If it is corrupt, it will tell you on the screen. I have seen both happen, system and card. It seems to be one or the other. If it was the system, it would have fixed itself in the reboot.

Lastly, be patient. The Flash takes a long time to recover from a power fail corrupt situation. If you watch it boot, it will give you peace of mind that it is doing something.

flash 2.0.0 is a known bad software release I have seen the same thing but I put new 2.0.10 software in and it comes right up with programming intact

Scanjet,
So the 2.0.0 software card upchucks easier than 2.0.1 during a black out and surge??

Rhollett,
I don't have a laptop! After messing around another 1/2 hr. I have determined the system dead.

Now its easy to explain why a BBU is a good investment. Don't know how many times I have recommended one to customers I did service for, to have them shrug off the thought until it hits them$$$$

Time to upgrade to a Call Pilot 100. And get myself a laptop. ( I am interested to see the programming from a network port ) any comments between programming through a telephone compared to PC. Thanks for the comments. Dave

So it is very likely that the software card only needs to be replaced on this system? Other one corrupted by the power surge.

Replaced software card with 2.0.10 and the system now works again. Thanks for the input. Dave

Install a Battery Backup UPS for your equipment.
