I have got the flash 2 unit up on my terminal program
after I enter SYSMGR I get the following:
Nortel Norstar Flash configuration in progress. Please wait.

Password:

SYSMGR will not work here.
All it does is give me the same:
Nortel Norstar Flash configuration in progress. Please wait.

Password:

Any Ideas.

what is it that you are attemtping to do by accessing it via serial?

I am trying to make sure that the Flash unit is good.
It passes all the tests, but I cannot get into it with any
codes. When I try to see what codes it will recognize it shows "none recognized". The switch is good and I have a feeling I am doing something wrong to get the VM to work.
It has been a while since I played with this. No feature codes work, none..

No feature works.
If I do **938378
and push First I get :None Registered"
The flash shows to be good with a bootup
if I monitor the serial port?

KSU is good , a phone works fine in the port.

????

With the VM off all I get is "None Registered" on the
display. Ideas? I am just about to give this thing up.

Check maint to see if the ports see the vmail.
With power off pull out feature card and re insert all the way.
Also what version is the software, and what are you hooking it up to and it's verion of software?

I am hooked to a 616 with DR5 software. I do not remember
a maint menu on the 616? The VM is using Ver 2.0.

As mentioned in an earlier post, if I use the serial port
it shows PASSED all the tests.

I am at a loss.

This stuff seems very flakey to me. Is it?

You vmail passed boot up tests yes but that does not mean it's talking to the phone system ok. Seems to me there is a wiring issue or bad patch cord between vmail and tel system.
Try it on another phone sysetm if you think the wiring is good.

The book will say a DR5 is compatible with Flash 2.0, but more often than not it won't "talk" to the control unit. I'd suggest going down on the Flash software version to something like 1.5 or 1.7.

I beleive the winner is exmogger. Had the same result some time ago. If you go to a earlier version (eg. 1.7) you should be good to go. On the straight DR5 I don't think it will go , however, I tried 2.0 on a 3x8 with DR5.1 and it did work. If all else fails and you want to prove the 2.0 software as good, maybe find another system to play with such as a CICS with 4.1. Good luck.

Problem fixed. Bad connector on cable. Worked on phone but pins were not making contact in flash unit. Replaced
connector. All is ok. FYI the Flash with 2.0 software does work with a 616 and DR5
