How does the PIX use the flash memory? Is it only used for IOS storage? I currently have 2Mb's of flash and would like to upgrade the flash for better performance. Will i get better performance?
Is there someway of buying the PIX IOS seperately without a support contract from Cisco that costs like 3.000USD$?

The PIX runs from flash. Up grading flash will not increase performance. It will allow you to upgrade to a newer IOS and PDM. You should really get a quote for Smartnet. My Smartnet for a PIX 515R is only $700 Canadian. Smartnet is more than maintenance, you should get a Cisco rep to run through the benifits. I pay about $6000 Canadian a year for for all my Cisco routers and PIXs. I wouldn't operate a network without it.
