Hello all and thanks for the assistance in the past,

This does not seem to be a hardware issue. This issue with a user's flash drive has me stuck. Maybe you have a few more ideas that I could try? We have tried many different drives and they all work except when the user loggs in as himself ----- very strange.

The user's computer is on a domain 200 user +. The drive will show up in “My Computer” when logged in as anyone else but thoshino. I have used my profile, another employee tried his, and when logged in as pc administrator the jump drive will show up. Logging in as thoshino WINXP PRO SP2 will add the drivers but will not show the drive in “My Computer” or explorer.

I tried an earlier suggestion of logging in as thoshino on my computer and add the drive and it worked fine (not really a true profile issue?). I tried another suggestion of logging into Tom H’s pc locally and removing him from the domain and then adding him back, but to no avail.

Dell had me try a few things (case # ########) but they were unsuccessful, clearing NV Ram and adding new drivers. The Dell tech asked a Tier 2 guy and he replied remove him as a user and add him again (from the domain I am guessing?). This could cause other issues I believe ---- but not really sure. Tom H. will stop by the office and ask what is going on. I tried looking for a solution on the net but it is not going well and I do not want to spend too much time on this issue.

Thanks in advance,

Erica

Unbelievable. He had a temp folder mapped to drive E: which was empty and unnecessary and was not even noticed. As soon as I disconnected this "E: mapped drive temp folder" WinXP added the flashdrive to drive to E.

What I still can't understand is why Xp wouldn't just assign drive F: to this flashdrive instead of fighting to install it on an already mapped E:

linney thanks for taking the time to post all that other usefull information, I have just copied a few of those links....

Problem Solved...

I've seen this as well. Apparently XP wants the next drive letter after the system default drives...usually the CD/DVD Device.
