I have a 4 port Flash with a 2.0.10 PCMIA software card. When I first got it, I did not know the password so did the F985 and reset. Then I had to 266344 and initialize it. After powering the system down, it now does not recognize the flash unit. I tried F903 and F983 and comes back with "inactive feature". I hooked up a computer with hyperterminal. It appears that the flash passes self tests and loads up fine. Comes to the password prompt. I put in SYSMGR and it says:

Nortel Norstar Flash configuration in progress. Please wait.

and comes back to password prompt almost immediately.

If I put a version 1.7 PCMIA card in it, the unit works fine after initializing the password.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the Flash card is bad. I have had flash's that won't boot up, until I put in another version (i.e. 1.77) flash card.

You can't login to the Flash with Hyperterminal until it has been configured, so what you're seeing is normal. Try powering down the Flash, and then use F**XFTEST to remove all inactive feature codes. Then power the Flash back on and see what happens.

I got it working, but now there is a different issue. After logging in with F983 the AA button says Not Allowed. I have read posts about flash lite doing this. This VM unit is a flash 4 NTAB2456 and PCMIA card is NT5B78EB E/F FLASH VM 2.0.10 FEAT CART.

This should not be a lite system. Any ideas? How do I do a master reset?

You may want to try this. Power up flash with 2.0 sw do a reinstall on voice mail before it completes the reinstall pull the power. Remove the software replace with 1.7 0r 1.9 power unit back up initalize with 1.7 power unit down replace with 2.0 sw. power back up. This has worked for me on serveral tries.

Since you have a flash 4....

Power down and remove the "4" cartridge.

This will force a purge.

I should say to power it up as a "2".

Should take to the f903 level.

I had a 4 port flash with the AA not allowed & had several tech's tell me all I had to do was to short-out the cap on the board. Did not work. Had to get a keycode to bring the box to a full flash.

All,
Im having similair problem. However, I cannot use f903 due to its tied to ACD?
I have cycled power, reseated card, checked DNs (ok), removed all inactive feature codes via xftest. I am now able to get vm to prompt me for password ("LOG") but have to dial the ext first. None of the feature codes for vm work (f9*1, 983, 981). I have also tried Feature 903, however 903 is for ACD at our site so it wants me to log in.
I have a laptop connected to vm. Passes everything on boot. When I log in, it says "Nortel xxx Configuration in Progress" ( I cant remember if xxx=flash or not). If I watch the laptop, it does generate messages saying things like Cannot answer call RC?
Any sugguestions?

Disregard. I ultimatly had to turn my ACD off, delete ALL feature codes listed in xftest. Boot the Flash VM. Initialize it (f903 was then available). Then boot the ACD.
It was just that easy.

There is a way it's just been a while but phasesplitter's reply sounds about right. If I have my lite software in the lab still I'll try it.
