We have got a website that was developed on a PC platform. When the website is viewed on a Mac we get scroll bars appearing on the non flash site when we enter pages using the navigation in Flash. The pages are all embedded within framesets, and the framesets say not to show scroll bars. I have gone into the code generated by flash for the page embedd, and put quotes around the sizes, and this has fixed the scroll bars for the naviagtion, but the actual content pages still have scroll bars regardless.

Does anyone have an idea ??

LOL ...... Old and Dave

Dave, merci pour l'invitation. As far as Friday night is concerned, I dont think anyone is going to be doing anything "on" me LOL!! so, I'd love to have a calm drink with you
LOL (sans champignons! mais avec le Concorde)

Oki, I'm going to bed before Dave (not you Dave, but the other Dave) kicks me out ;-)
Sweet dreams everyone!

Patricia

I thought the Concorde was grounded?
Yet, you could have a smooth take-off on mushrooms, even with BA!

B-)

LOL I should get a medal for trying though, don't you agree?! LOL dave@davdesign.co.uk

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Can't give you a medal until I visit you in Provence!
Can't even give you that other stuff... Could start an all new controversy!

I will agree with one thing... Seems to have been, for you, one of those long nights, I can no longer cope with!

B-)

LOL

yeah, up-all-night, going to work in an hour! ;-) dave@davdesign.co.uk

Well... Good croissants & café au lait... Or does Monsieur drink tea?

Have a nice day!
I'm turning in!

X-)

And a goodnight to you Tulsa!

Right then oldnewbie the site has eventually gone live after client approval (took over a month!!!). the URL is any suggestions to get rid of the scrollbars on the pages would be great

Hi arperry,

First, your above link doesn't work... This one should:

Very nice site! Good work!

Being on a PC, I don't get any scrollbars, so I can't really help you more on that. Those users here, that work on MAC, should be able to do that.

I have noticed a potential problem you might want to look into. Once you've visited one of the left menu items, if you re-hit the skip intro button (that remains available on the top-left), there's an overlapping of that item that I guess should not be there...

Is this clear?

;-)

cheers for the comment, the client seems to like it as well which is always a plus !!!!

the problem that you have mentioned isn't really clear. do you mean that when the homepage builds, that the skip intro button overlaps with the final picture of the hotel front ?? if that is what you mean that is what it is meant to do apparently (according to the designer!!)

Hi,

No, I was not speaking of the homepage building. I understand why the skip intro would last to the end of that building. When finished it does dissapear, which is normal, since the intro is over.

What I'm saying is that if you go to Public Rooms for instance, that skip intro button reappears. If you hit it, I can see the homepage under the Public Rooms' pictures and it get's a bit confusing. I guess the problem lies in the fact that that skip intro button reappears when it shouldn't.
This seems to happen to any item you select!

Clearer?

;-)

Crystal clear now yeah thanks

however, the skip intro button is not showing up on the version that i have just looked at.

do you mind if i ask, what platform, browser and flash plug-in that you are using. as all of the ones that we have tested it on that does not occur, so maybe this is just a weird one !

cheers

tony

Arperry,

Using PC with IE5.5 & Flash5 player. The skip intro reappears on top of the item heading.
Just checked it with NS4.76, and no problem with that button... It doesn't reappear. But clicking on thumbnails has no effect... The new pictures do not load up!
Maybe I should stop evaluating your site, in fear of breaking up your success!

Maybe some other user with the same kind of setup, should confirm all of this.

;-)

Cool, right then i will have a look at that, at some point, sit down with the designer and see if we can find out why that is happening.

The thumbnails are not meant to load up in the main picture, as it failed in netscape so we wrote that functionality out for netscape users.

weird thing, though that is the same spec that i run @ homr and the site is fine, so this just gets weirder.

if i manage to find the problem i will let you know, cheers for your help

Hello there!
long time no tek tip forum
Anyway, Asperry, yes, I do have the scroll bars on my machine and it's very troublesome, because there is no need for them.
However the rest of the site is really good! :) Nice work. Nice animations in the intro.
Old, as far as the thumbnails are concerned, they work for me. The only problem is that they are half hidden by the scroll bars....
Dave, dont know if you are going to read this, but I never received the new file....
Bon, voila. I hope this helps a bit Asperry, if you need me to make a screen grab on my mac, I can do that.
Patricia

Pat,
The thumbnails work for you with NS? They replace the main picture when you click them?
That's what I was reporting. They work for me with IE but not with NS and Arperry says they wrote that out for Netscape users. So what are you saying?

;-)

the thumbnails will work for people using windows 95,98 using ie 4+. they won't work for people that are using NS on any platform as netscape just doesn't work.

thanls for the offere pbb, but we have got a mac here thats why i know that the scrollbars are there. Any ideas of how to get rid of the scrollbars as they are spoiling the layout of the site?

all of the definitions for the framesets have scrolling="no" so they shouldn't appear !

Hi again,
As this post seems to indicate, you're not the only only one having this problem with IE on Mac:

Sorry, there's no reply and this was posted like a year ago.

Other readings lead me to believe this could be a bug in IE5.x for Mac. Maybe try to see if the problem is still there with IE 4 on Mac!

Best I can do!

;-)

that is interesting, thanls all of you for your help with this problem, and i am now off to bother microsoft and maybe even macromedia.

thanks again

tony

Old,

I'm very sorry, I have not had time to come on tek tips lately and therefore did not see your question.
Thumbnails : yes, the bigger images replace the thumbnails, on NS (4.7) when clicked on. However, just on the splash screen. On the other pages, the thumbs don't work (at least not on our systems here)
Voila!
Have a great day,

Patricia

the thumbnails on the home page will work, as the homepage uses flash, so there is no cross browser problems. all of the other pages are using dhtml, and this is what has gone wrong in netscape, so they don't work in NS, and have been written out of the functionality
