How do I permanently get rid of the extremely annoying prefix of "My" in front of directories like Documents, Pictures, Music, etc. and from "My Computer", "My Network..."?

I know that it is my computer, since I am the only one using it! And even on other computers, where there are more user profiles, everybody knows it's their docs, pics, etc. Windows does create profiles for the users, so why give everything that useless "My"? Cheers,
Nico

Right click on the icon and select the "rename" and change it to Nico's Computer ...

Right-clicking and choosing rename works - once you've got an icon or a folder name to click on. Maybe, like me, you trashed the "My Documents" icon on your desktop a while ago, and now you want to get rid of the popup title "My Documents" that appears when you click on Start, then Documents.

Probably a better way, but this works:
1) right-click on the grey launch bar, choose Toolbars, New Toolbar.
2) right-click and rename the "My Documents" folder.
3) click somewhere else to finish the name change. Then cancel out of New Toolbar.

In the spirit of eliminating minor annoyances, 'cause we can't do much about the major ones: Happy My hunting.

The suggestions you give are the simple solution I have implemented a long time ago. For instance, my Documents has that name only, and the Pictures folder inside it as well. The annoyance is that every now and again, a program (I am not sure which) will create a new My Docs, My Pics, My Music, My ... And the same when logging in on another computer, where I have to do all the renaming again!

That's the reason for the question about permanent change! Cheers,
Nico
