Fixed Task over a period of time 1

Hello all, This is my first post and its a question with which I need help with. More information below:

I need to setup a task in the WBS (where task durations are in days or hours.) I have a task which is over a period of years and only a certain amount of hours needs to be dedicated every month. EX: A task for a period of 5 years and has 10 hours of fixed work every month.

How do I go about setting this up in Project?

Enter Work
Assign the Resource Name(s)
Set task Type to Fixed Work
Set the the Duration to however long the task lasts.

Thank you PDQBach, but for this to succeed I must have a resource that is only working for 5 hrs a month correct? What if its a vendor related task, and the vendor has other normal operating hour tasks in the WBS?

Would the only option for me would be to create a custom calendar with the 1st having 5 hrs and rest all days as non-working ways and applying it to this task?

Nope.

Project will just spread the 5 hours out over the month. You don't care when those five hours are worked ... you just care that they are worked and that the deliverable is prepared.

You could go in an edit the allocation that Project makes, but I doubt you've got the time to micro-manage at that level. Any time you spend doing that would be much better spent almost anywhere else on your project.

Thank You PDQBach, The mistake I was doing all this while was manually entering the start/finish dates instead of entering "3y" in duration.

That change worked for me.
