First time upgrading VMPRO 4

Hello,
I feel like I'm late to the party doing these upgrades, but the time has finally come.
Think I finally got the correct process down to upgrade the IPO to 11 for one customer.
This is for a different customer that has VMPRO.
This customer is at 9.1.12 for both the IPO & VMPRO, I have the licenses to do the upgrade for both.

After reading numerous other threads about upgrading VMPRO, still not seeing anything cut & dry the best way of doing so.

So far my plan is, do the Backups from System Preferences, then copy the VM folder & file VMData.mdb to both the desktop of the PC running their current VMPRO & to a USB thumb drive.

Then do my IPO upgrade (thinking I might do this remotely)
When that comes back up I'll install my new licenses.

From there I'm not clearly understanding where to go from there with the VMPRO.

Sounds like the VMPRO will see the upgrade license & maybe upgrade itself?
Then I might have to load the VM folder & VMData.mdb file?
Then also restore from System Preferences, from what I backup?

Then all is good after testing???

This almost sounds to easy, so I'm sure I'm missing something.

I know not to upgrade to the 11.1, because of the discontinuation of VMPRO on a windows based PC, out of the 11.0.x, does anyone have their preferences what's the most stable?
Reasoning why doing the upgrade is to add a SCN license on current system, for a new location that the customer purchased & will be installing a new system there.

I currently have Manager 11.0.4.1 Build 11 & was just thinking of using that, so far no issues with new installs using it.
Just upgraded the new system for the new location to that.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

PS, just remembered I also read some say to just do an uninstall of the VMPRO, then load the new version.
What's the opinions of that?

First make sure you have a completed and successful upgrade of the IP Office. The VM Pro will still run even though the versions are different. Once you have determined that the IP Office is working at R11, then you can begin the upgrade of the VM Pro. I would upgrade to the 11.0.2 release. Not the latest release 11.0.4

Do a backup and a copy of the database, and a copy of the VM folder and save it to a flash drive just to be safe. Do not rely on a copy saved on the local PC.

After that, you can upgrade the VM Pro. Run the R11 VM Pro install and it will ask you if you want to do an upgrade. Just continue from there.

*note... some have said that you should upgrade from R9, to 9.1, to 10, to 11. I personally have not had issues going from R9.1 to R11, but it can happen I am sure.

I feel totally dumb to ask this but where is the R11 VM Pro install?
Obviously I didn't upgrade the IPO yet, but where about would that be located?
I'm logged into the system I'm upgrading now remotely & can't find where that would be at.

Out of the hundreds of IPOs we installed I think only four of them use VMPRO, the rest we just use Embedded.
When we installed these we had help from another source & he loaded everything & I have that config just on a thumb/flash drive.
Like I said this is the first time I have to upgrade one.

Also I forgot one other thing that I didn't previously asked, I have read about Install all Windows updates first to obtain the latest WinTrust.dll on the PC.
Do I need to do this?
Right now ever since we installed the original 9.1.12 VMPRO we have the PC set to never do windows updates.

The voicemail software is its own executable file. If you don't have a copy of it send me a message and I'll get it to you.

I assume you are running Windows 10? I would make sure all the updates are complete on the Windows side.

Make sure Windows 10 doesn't re-enable the firewall.

Z-Man, I think I found the executable file you are talking about, see attachment.
But you can see the latest I have is only 11.0.0.481, so if you can send me a newer copy, thanks so much.
Unless you think the one I have is a good enough release?
I just upgraded their Manager software only, now to 11.0.4.1.0, so I think I'm just going to upgrade to that.
I'm assuming in your previous post you said to go to 11.0.2 not 11.0.4, you mean 11.0.4.2 not 11.0.4.4?

Don't know how/if you send that to me if you can do it through this site or if need my email, but just let me know what I need to do so you can send it to me please.

Their IT guy is going to do the updates on their Windows 10 tonight & I told him to make sure it doesn't re-enable the firewall,

Be very careful copying the entire VM directory(I don't suggest doing it). If you try to copy that VM directory over the current one you can (and likely will) completely hose up the Voicemail Pro installation. You only need the folders Accounts, Names, Greetings, and WAVs from the VM folder.

What critchey said! Also, I haven't seen it mentioned here but I have had a couple of issues if you just install R11 VMPro as a Windows application upgrade. I HIGHLY recommend backing up those 4 folders and the call flows .mdb and then uninstall VMPro and then install the new version.

Couple questions, you said backup the call flows .mdb is this the VMData.mdb?
I don't see a callflows.mdb all files with call flows are .dll

Also I did ask about uninstalling then install the new, but so far your the first to say to do so.
Is your suggestion the true correct way to do it?

If I don't uninstall & just try an upgrade, worst case scenario if have issues I can't resolve, then I should be able to uninstall & install the new version correct?

Thank you guys for clarifying my comment. When I suggested copying the VM directory, it was just to preserve it as a back up, in the event you might need to revert.

Ok everyone, I just went ahead & Exported all 3 of the .mdb .mod & .con Copied them to the desktop of the PC & then will copy them also plus the other files I saved to a flash drive.
