just hoping for people to throw ideas at me, or to look at website's logos, as I've got my first job designing a logo for an online catalogue maker. I'm hoping to find a good font and make a logo with meaning.
You don't give us very much to go on, here. What applications do you have, how much design experience?
I would recommend that you use a vector graphics app for the logo, such as Adobe Illustrator or CorelDraw. Vector graphics are scalable, and the acceptable format.
I also like to design in black and white. If the design works in black and white, then it will work when you add color. You have to think ahead that the logo might be used for letterhead and business cards.
Don't use drop shadows or gradients, as they do not translate well in many uses.
Other than that, it is up to the designer to know what they have the ability to do. Talent can't be taught in a web forum, and I am not being a smart@ss.
If you have more specific questions, I am sure we can help, but your initial question was very broad.
no no yes yes I mean, everything you have said is righton. You know, its difficult b/c you want something great.
I've thought of one good idea, but it is difficult to explain. It an online shopping cart so it should represent security, reliablity, robust, slick function, all the benefits you can think of, but I'd like to catch someting from outside of the square, you know the flipside. A window, fingers walking, some image on a 3D cube, have you seen anything lately?
