Hello,

I recently lost a DC, was the very first DC on the domain.

I successfully demoted the DC and would like to set it up again from scratch.

On the network we have a second DC which holds all of the roles of the demoted DC.

What is the right procedure to promote the new DC in place of the old one ? can i use the same name as the demoted DC? and finally how am i going to make the new DC the first DC on the Domain again?

I thought of setting up a new computer run dcpromo and then leave it to replicate with the other DC's on the domain is that correct?

If you "lost" the DC, how did you demote it? Are there any remnants of it in AD?

I cleared everything according to Microsoft, transfered all of the roles with ntdsutil, cleared metadata as well.

I didnt actually demote it cause the server was off!
