Hi there

The problem is: my CD-RW (HP CD-Writer 8100i) can't write 80 min disc.

To solve this, it is necessary to upgrade the CD-Writer's firmware from 1.0g to 1.0n (which is a hack from the Sony's firmware but should work).

The problem now is: whenever I want to update the firmware I get the error message 'Could not find an HP SureStore CD-Writer Plus drive'. In the according log is written 'Could not load CDR4DLL.DLL'.

How can I solve this?

TIA

Is cdr4dll.dll present and accounted for?

You might try regsvr32(space)cdr4d.dll...making d__n sure you're in the correct directory (where the file resides)

oops, in the command should have said
regsvr32(space)cdr4dll.dll
shoulda' watched what the ll I was doing

Using regsvr32(space)cdr4dll.dll I get the error message 'cdr4dll.dll was loaded but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found'.

And the authority who told you that even tho this is a hack it should work is.......?
Is obviously not able to tell you how to make it work.

It may not.

1 more thing I can think of to try...
regsvr32(space)/u(space)cdr4dll.dll(enter)
regsvr32(space)cdr4dll.dll(enter)

If this doesn't work, go back to whoever told you it would work and ask them HOW.

The fact that you say "This should work" gives me the creeps. You have to be very carefull when upgrading any firmware of a peripheral. If you use the wrong firmware version then it is possible that your cd-writer won't work anymore.

Recheck your sources.

Just a piece of advice.

Everthing works now. Solved the problem. Thanks.

Another way of thanking us for taking the time to answer your question would be to let us know what worked.

Vale, voy a explicarte... ;)

Since I have dual boot (from ancient times) I tried to flash the firmware starting up the other os (NT 4.0) which I originaly used to install my writer. It worked but I still don't know why I didn't work with Windows 2000...

To solve this problem you have to copy the CDR4DLL.DLL file in the windows\system directory. After that, run the upgrade the firmware. It will work OK.

If you do not have this file download it. Go to yahoo and use CDR4DLL.DLL HP, you will find it somewhere.

good luck

Hi

I have almost the same problem. I bought my 8100i when I had win 98 installed. Now I have upgraded to XP but I have lost my installdisc so when I ran the firmware I got the errormessage:
'Unable to detect CD-writer Plus Software which includes support files required by this program'

I have no clue what to do....

Can somebody help me?

Nicolas
