Anyone out there using a Business Partner for firmware updates and if so, do you think it is a good idea? How often are you doing that and do you think it is beneficial?
Just do them when you get around to it, or when you need to fix a specific issue. There is no need to upgrade firmware everytime something new comes out.
It is a good idea to read the release notes to determine if the patch(s) are an immediate or when you get around to release though. Keep in mind that a lot of the patches are released for CM version upgrades and may not even apply to your CM release.
demanding... i do not see anything wrong with having a BP do the firmware update... they are fairly quite simple and hard to get wrong. I worked for Avaya for 13 years assisting customers, Avaya techs and engineers, and even BP's on site. It all depends on how comfortable you are having them do a firmware update.
As rwallot said, read the notes. I had a number of obscure issues that were never fully resolved until an Avaya Tier 3 guy gave me a list of firmwares to apply. Interesting thing is that some were upgrades and some were downgrades. Turns out some firmware revs. are tied to specific levels of CM version. Some of ours were too new. Otherwise, they're not that hard to do - just tedious if you have a lot to do in one batch.
