Fireworks pop-up menu exported as DW library item

I have recently designed a fab pop-up menu for a new nav bar. It exports perfectly in DW as an html file however, we have around 300 pages that will use this new nav bar so I tried exporting as a library item. This doesn't work as it doesn't export the javascript with the slices so is useless.
Does anyone know how to do this as it must possible - fireworks has an export as library item option - surely it must know that it can't work without the corresponding javascript.
I know that lebisol recently helped vlakas1981 with a similar problem but I don't know what the answer actually was.
I have tried copying and pasting the javascript into the library item but it still doesn't work.
It would be so good to get this thing to work! Any advice, please?

Max, thanks for your reply. I have tried exporting the pop-up menu directly into DW and then making it a library item but the same thing happens: it ignores the javascript. It works fine in a standard web page as the javascript sits in the <head> section with the event handler in the <body> section. But library items obviously can't have these sections and the javascript needs to be incorporated slightly differently but THAT'S THE QUESTION!!
I am not sure how to modify the javascript - any ideas? It would be SO great to get this thing working as library item.
Yours hopefully,
Jean

try pasting the javascript into an include file and adding that to the library item
