I have my custom rig thats just about 4 years old, and i have never had my firewire work. It has one on the mobo, and when i connect it to another computer or my firewire equipped external case, it doesn't do anything. I'll look up my Mobo info, but in the meantime, any ideas?

I'm assuming that you are running Win XP.

Check in device manager to see if the firewire port shows up.
I think it will show up as a network device.

If you can't find it there look for disabled devices. If you find it as a disabled device you will probably just need to get a driver for it. If you have the driver cd for your motherboard I would start there.

If you can't find any trace of it in device manager, check that it has not been disabled in the BIOS.

It shows up as a network device, and it says its connected, even though there is nothing hooked up to it. And yes, tis xp, forgot to state that

Have you tried the latest drivers and firmware for the MoBo. I had the same issue with USB2 a few years back...

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

There is an expansion-slot dongle that usually comes with the mainboard and needs to be plugged in correctly to the appropriate mainboard header for Firewire to work. Likewise, the case's front-panel Firewire port needs to be properly connected. Try using the mainboard dongle instead of the front panel port, there may be some wiring discrepancies.

Switched to the expansion slot and it still didnt work. There are no drivers on the website. The Mobo is an ASUS p4p800-e Deluxe
