I am having problems with windows 98 and 98SE detecting my firewire card which should be Plug n Play. I have tried the card in different PCI slots. I have upgraded from 98 to 98SE and retried again. I tried the card in a friends PC which had Windows 98 and was detected okay. I am running out of ideas here. Any clues as to what to do try next would be useful. My motherboard btw is Plug n Play.

For starters make sure you have done the update so you are running Win98 SE. that will assist you greatly. As for "Plug and Play", its really "PLUG & PRAY"is the card showing up in the hardware list at all? if so it may be that all you need to do is install the drivers that should have come with the firewire card.. Firewire is not a native bus to Win98 and it requires the drivers to be made to operate. If you dont have the driver disk for the firewire card you can goto the Mfg's website and download the latest ones for your Card.

I have checked the upgrade to windows 98 SE and all seems okay. The firewire card does not show up anywhere. I tried adding it as new hardware but still no show. The info that came with the card said it could use the standard win98 drivers.

Have you tried the card in a different slot? sometimes that works also.. also, try the card in a different PC to make sure the card itself isnt faulty.
