i have a E-machines c-1904 with windows xp home and current version of mcafee anti-virus and firewall plus, i am wondering why the firewall goes to full "lockdown" and the ethernet card is "disabled" and this occurs after a detected "hacker attack" can anyone tell me what is going on and it also "freezes up" when i try to runa a scan or do a disk cleanup. any help or advice would be greatly appricated. thanks

Sounds like your firewall and antivirus think someone is trying to mess with your system. I would call or write the companies and see if this software works together and if there are any known problems.

Also, check your settings for mcafee and for your firewall. The answer may lie in changing a setting or two.
Not sure as i dont use mcafee. I had a bad experience with mcafee years ago and i stick to norton and AVG. Not really knocking mcafee though.

Good advice + great people = tek-tips
