I have a cable modem on my Win 2000 server machine which uses NAT to give internet/email/etc access to the other machines on the network.
I'm running Black Ice Defender as the firewall but in online security tests I'm scoring very low marks. Black Ice is cranked up to the max but is not really upto the task.

What firewall software are you other guys using which you would recommend ????????/

Black ice is okay for the Gui and the nice log file it creates , if per say you are loking for a Firewall program you should look into r/rass on that server of yours and do some ip filtering and block what ports you want blocked within win2k server ! If not options of a linksys or other routers between your server and the cable modem would work great as well , But personaly i would still even though you do have black ice i would still look into doing some filtereing with in r/rass on that box .............................. I have yet to find a decent windows based firewall solution. What I would suggest is to grab any old machine out of your junk pile and a couple of NICs. and toss it between your server and your modem. Then go download smoothwall (for free) from smoothwall.org and install it on that machine. Its free, easy to configure, will run on anything over 386 and its Linux based so it actually works. You will sleep better, trust me.

Screeminchiken hey thanks for the info ! i have had use of an external and internal router Ihave found that using a linksys router is a hell of alot ease of headaches to do instead of creating a software based router ! But i am looking into downlaoding that info ! and using it as well Anthony Cabanas
