Hello @all.

I've installed FireWall-1 on my WindowsXP box.
Now i tried to install a policy via policy editor which told me the following:

Standard.W: Security Policy Script generated into Standard.pf
Standard:
Compiled OK.

Downloading Security Policy E:\CheckPoint\Firewall-1\4.1\conf\Standard.pf to localhost(verleihnix)
Downloading on localhost(verleihnix) succeeded

Installing Security Policy Standard on all.all@VERLEIHNIX
Unable to open '\Device\FW1': Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden. (Engl.: System cannot find the specified file)
Failed to get interface list: Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden.
Has only loopback (lo) interface, aborting...
Failed to Load Security Policy: Das System kann die angegebene Datei nicht finden.
Installing Security Policy on localhost(verleihnix) failed

What means that? Any suggestions how 2 fix?

Thanks in advance

It's not compatible with XP perhaps? Firewall-1 should run on a server platform (NT4, Solaris, Linux, Win2K). At the moment there is no server version of XP and I doubt that CheckPoint support any kind of XP installation for the firewall module or management station.

This may not be specific to it being a firewall-1 install.

My boss got a new laptop a week ago, preinstalled with XP Pro, and around the same time I inherited an older one, so I wiped it and did a clean install of XP Pro. Added service pack 1 to both machines, tried to install Securemote (srsc_41_sp5_4199_win2k_strong.zip). My 'new' cleanly built laptop installed with no problems whatsoever (after answering the numerous "warning this isn't Microsoft signed driver warnings), my bosses new laptop with it's preinstall wouldn't run it, but didn't bring up the warnings about driver installs. When he reboots and the securemote envelope would normally appear, it displays "Error during initilisation", if I create fwenc.log and retry it the log shows errors about "Unable to Open \\device\fw1".

SecureRemote/SecureClient is supported on XP, but currently Firewall-1 (management and module) is not supported. This must run on a server platform, which XP is not.

Maybe some of you are interested in:
Checkpoint FireWall-1 DOES WORK under Windows XP Professional.

Okay, it's not (yet?!) certified, but it works. Try installing Service Pack 3. This one ensures "officially" W2k compatiblity, but it also works fine with XP. There was kinda strange behaviour of the installation routine (resetting my machine without any prompt or any information) but it rebooted successfully and installed the (w2k-certified)Firewall-1 Drivers.

No there's no more UNABLE TO OPEN "\Device\FW1" and it works fine. Going to configure it tomorrow. Already late down here ;)

Good night.

Win2K service pack 3 , or a firewall service pack?

We've just got an identical laptop to that of my bosses new one, so I'm going to try installing securemote on that as well, prior to anything else (including XP SP1).

FireWall-1 Service Pack 3.

If SecuRemote works, I don't know, but i got a working FW-1 SP3 on my XP machine. Maybe that helps you.
