A tool that I have found to be indispensable is the Web Developer Toolbar that can be added as an extension to the Firefox browser. (Like you needed another reason to use Firefox). I am sure that many of you on this forum are already aware of it, but I thought I’d just toss this out there for the rest of you.

You can find it on the Firefox site at Toolbar

You can use the ‘Edit CSS’ button to change the css on the sites you are viewing. This has helped me to answer a number of questions about css posted on this forum without having to download the files to my machine, make changes, etc.

I really like this tool, but I have a problem with it that most people have: it's not on IE!

The strange things I run into when coding typically occur when the page is viewed in IE, and having that tool on Firefox--where the page displays properly--is almost wasted.

Anyone know where something similar is available for IE? That would be great.

Or even better, making Gecko simulate IE for testing purposes. That way we wouldn't even have to run IE again. :)

I love some of the extensions for firefox. I installed the "tidy" extension. It's amazing how many pages are not coded to standard. I like to take pride in doing the job properly. If you page is coded to standards it "should" work in any browser built to standard! (not that there are many of those!)

The latest version of the (indispensible) web developers' toolbar - version 0.9.3 - can be found at the author's own site: . If you're still looking for a reason to switch to Firefox, this is it! There's a nice discussion of other neat add-ons for FF at
For an IE version of the Developers' Toolbar, check out - which has many similar functions.
