firefox problem: had to restart and asked to switch between users...

Dear members:

I encounter a problem in firefox so i had to restart. something happened when i clicked on the firefox icon to go online which never happened before because it asked me to choose between default user and just user. so i didn't know which one to choose that has my most recent bookmarks and shortcuts etc. so randomly i choosed user it was the wrong selection because it has bookmarks that was older then 3 months and few shortcuts. Therefore, I would like to know please how do you switch between the other user and what went wrong that i had to restart firefox and select between only two user options (which i never asked to do it)

Hi

That seems to be the Profile Manager. That usually jumps up this way when previously some error occured and FireFox does not close cleanly. In this situations the lock file is not removed, so next time FireFox thinks that is already running with that profile.

The lock file is usually located at ~/.mozilla/profilename/randomid/lock. ( At least on Linux. You forget to mention your operating system. ) Just delete it, then start FireFox again.

Which profile ? That you should know. Try the other one, not the default.
When you want to access the Profile Manager, then start FireFox with [tt]-ProfileManager[/tt] command line parameter.

i have window xp security edition on my toshiba 1400-s151 laptop. i have some question on how do i do what you told me:
1. how and where to i find the lock file: ~/.mozilla/profilename/randomid/lock.
2. how do i find the profile manager
