Hi all,
I have just installed firefox latest version on my work PC (W2K) and my work laptop (XPPro). Trouble is that when Im trying to access my corporate intranet on address firefox automatically changes it in the address bar to therefore I cannot access it!
Any ideas where I can stop this "feature"?

Cheers! :-D

John

Well Depending on which version of firefox will depend on how you go about it. Regardless ill give you the step somewhat. As the steps I give you will be with firefox 1.06. Anyways go to tools then options, click privacy, expand saved form information, uncheck the box there and hit apply and ok. Close firefox and reopen it. You might need to completely clear history to remove it out of save. Anyways this should stop it.

Hi,
I am using the latest release, v1.5 and have followed the steps you mention but its still banging in the ' and '.com'

John

tried both of these and its still autocompleteing. Any other ideas?

John

Have you checked your system for spyware such as gator and other tools of the like? Reason being all these will hold the information as well. Im thinking something else is holding it other than firefox.

I have no spyware of any kind, this is a clean corporate system behind enterprise class firewalls. Never have any problems really and I can view the said page in IE no probs

John

Using the about:config method mentioned by feherkeabove, check the boolean values of browser.urlbar.autoFill and browser.urlbar.autocomplete.enabled.

Try changing the autoFill option to False first - I had to add the browser.urlbar.autoFill line to my configuration to enable the autocomplete behaviour.

Go to privacy and click clear all on shutdown. Then shut it down and clear all. If that does not get rid of it something else is doing it as that right there will clear every piece of information firefox holds. Let us know if this helps.

Tried both of the suggestions above and its still demonstrating the same behaviour. Tried it on two different PCs now and it does the same on both machines

John

I know this isn't spyware - it is a documented feature. I just have no idea how to turn it off (and I've looked around, as it's bugging me, too).

If I find out, I'll let you know!

Still not working. I will need to abandon firefox and stay with IE. Shame really.

What happens is you just type in the IP address of the server? e.g.

Hmmm, goes in fine and I can reach the site. Strange

John

Well at least that's a temporary workaround for you at the moment.

I've just installed Firefox on a few different pc's and what you are experiencing is not the default behaviour (i.e. something must have turned it on or it could have been selected when installing it). I'd suggest removing Firefox and re-installing it.

Actually, that may mean it's a DNS problem as if it can't resolve the address, it will probably try it with a .com extension.

Also, have you tried adding the named address into the "No Proxy for" list?
