Firebox X configuration

Hi all,
just put a running configuration from one box to another.
Everything seems to be fine, but I wanted to make sure the box will work when it will be plugged in.
So i tried with a notebook connected to the external interface and configured with the gateway IP to ping the external IP address of the box, but without success. When I ping the box the configuration was taken from I get a response. So configuration for ping response should be o.k.. I tried with 2 boxes, always the same result.
Did I do or think anything wrong or must the box really be connected to internet for working?
Would be happy to get some help.

Have you tried putting the ping rule above the outgoing rule?

That config looks like a pretty old version. thought of moving to a new device?
