How do I configure my firewall so that I can play games over the net. Because it won't work when I try to play games online.

It would help if you provided some more information than that, i.e. what firewall and what games for starters.

As a generic answer, you will need to find out what ports are used by the games you wish to play, and open the firewall for these ports, but without some more details - cant help ya...

depending on the games...different games uses different port. for example, Descent3 will use port 2063 so you need open up that port. You have to find out what port the game uses
disable your firewall
Run the game
open a dos prompt
type: netstat
it should show you what ports your computer is open

Here you will find a list of games with the incoming and outgoing port numbers identified.

Hey Eguy, that's helpfull. But I don't know how to open ports? I have norton personal firewall. How do I open these ports?

Sorry I took so long to reply, but its been a while since I've used NPF, I had to dig out my copy.

Open Norton Personal Firewall.
Click on Options > Personal Firewall > Advanced Options > Other

You should now see the port list. Add the ports you want to use here.
