Hey folks, recently inherited a phone system I quite honestly have very little idea what I'm doing with.

The current issue, I have a handset plugged into a wire that I'm entirely certain is one of the several hundred wires plugged into the switch on the other side of the building. I know how to set up the new phone in the switch, but I have no idea how to identify the tn I need to assign my dn to.

Is there anything I can do from the handset/switch to identify the tn of a specific wire?

Thank you and regards,

Thank you for the reply - unfortunately the phone doesn't have a dn yet. What I have is a bare wire that I know is one of the several hundred plugged into the switch, a request to have a phone on that wire and a phone.

I know how to figure out the tn from the dn (or vice versa) and how to add a new phone, but what I need to do is identify the tn of what was a bare and unlabeled wire of which the extent of my knowledge is "It's a gray rj11.

not a lot you can do without a toner, you could get lucky and try to prt the set inventory an look for the set serial number in LD 117

inv prt sets

3904, 020 0 03 00, M3904 NTMN03EA 70 03 0CCCF1 , 4310J2, 7855

but if set is not programmed or active it may not work.

Thanks,

I would go into LD 117 and do INV GEN ALL to obtain a current list. Log out and log back in around 30 minutes later as the checking for most systems will have finished by then.

Then follow buddy's advice and do INV PRT ALL.
The "ALL" prompt also checks most of your equipment cards.

Also do a full TNB printout in LD 20 and follow the link to try out the conversion utility guide. Instructions are listed in there.
