finding stolen laptops 3

I work in a school where we have 90 laptop computers. We just got them this fall and have had 3 stolen so far already. Can anyone think of a simple free, system level way I can tell if a computer logs on from some other IP address?

Additionally I would get a kensington security cable for each laptop and have the staff lock it to a piece of furniture or pipe when possible.

Use the above software in addition to something like deepfreeze...

Now they cannot even re-format the drive to remove the security software (and cannot install or change any software or settings.)

If they steal a laptop, they can only use it for the programs already installed...should put a crimp in the thefts.
