Finding registry values

I have a fairly new OEM WIn 2000 Pro which has always given me this error message in the Event Viewer, at boot: "THe value named There Was no Announce in the server's registry key, LanmanServer\Parameters was invalid. The value was ignored, and processing continued." I have reformatted several times (for one reason or another - practicing...) and I still get that message.

A Google search on this key pulls up absolutely nothing. Nor does a search on the MSKB. When I call the manufacturer's tech Support, they tell me to contact Microsoft, but Microsoft tells me to contact the manufacturer. The result is that I can't find the tiny little 1 or 2 digit number I need to fix this glitch.

If anyone has a working 2K pro machine, could you look in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Services\Lanmanserver\ParametersThere was no announce (Or do a search for "There was no announce" - and tell me what you have as a value (Just right click, click "Modify", and take a look), and post the number here?

Thank you very much!!!

PS: IF you work for Microsoft, you'd better not tell me, because they might make YOU pay the $175!

Hello,

I found this. Maybe it can help you.

Wow. Thank you. I don't even see "There was no announce" I only have 4 items in my Parameters folder. (Of course, I dont' have a lan). Perhaps it's just a statement about the status of the value, "Lmannounce". I'm going to delete it, and see what happens.

Thanks again for your trouble!

this may be way off base, but I too have seen that frustrating message. My issue was the drivers for the NIC - they were older DOS drivers that had to be "tweeked" before I could continue on to get to the network. May possibly be the modem - depends on whatcha got. Hope my experience is helpful to you....

Now, that's interesting, because I've had intermittant modem troubles - mostly just not being recognized. If I open up the case and reseat the modem, then it works. I've also been having a lot of stop errors online, and it doesn't seem to be a problem with the browser or the ISP, since I'vew reinstalled both.

I'll put the modem in another slot and try it.

Thanks, Demented!
