Hi, I'm fairly new to Linux and SSH/Telnet and I'm having emmense trouble simply finding my way around the directory structure on a new dedicated server we have.

I'm sure that this is dependant on the install, but does any one know where I can usually find (or how I can find out) where the document root is for this server?

Running FreeBSD 4.8 and Apache

Thanks
Aaron

No usr/local/ empty. Should you usually be able to view this logged in as superuser(root)

Thanks

Hi,

Do you know where about your httpd.conf file? If not search for it and view the file to find out your document root. Like roberti said usually its under /usr/local/www.

Thanks very much guys. Worked out how to use the find command correctly and searched the entire root for httpd.conf. Didn't find it, but I wasn't logged in as root.

Anyway, saw all the doc root folders for my domains flash up on screen. They were in home/[first domain letter]/[second domain letter]/[domain]. Not sure if i should have said that I was running multiple virtual servers.

eg, if I was looking for the doc root for mysite.com, it would be in home/m/y/mysite/

Thanks for the help anyway.

Aaron.
