Problem is when I open one file in Excel it is very slow. Apparently looking for a link to a file that may have been deleted. It is looking for the file.

How do I find where the links starts?
Also how do I delete it?

I am running Windows 98 with office 2000. File involved is over 16mg.

Any help is greatly appreceated.
Thanks
KH

Choose Edit Links to find out how many links you have, and what they are. This should tell you the sources, and you can look to see if they are still valid.

If you select all (Ctrl-A) the linkd data will not show as selected. Then you should be able to find it. If you select a linked range, it should delete like an object or picture (select, then hit Delete key).

Erm, sawedoff, doing select all ( Ctrl-A ) does show linked data as selected. Are you thinking of linked objects? Linked data in cells can be selected just the same way as any other cells.

I've just remembered, there's a utility from Bill Manville called FindLinks, which you can download from here. Once you've added it in, then you can see a new option in the Options menu command for dealing with links. Here's the page to download from:

If it is an object, Ctrl -A will leave it unselected while selecting all else. Then you should be able to see it (it will be white, while all else is shaded). You can then select it by clicking in the upper left hand corner and it will show little anchor points (tiny black squares)at the corners. The delete key should take care of it at that point.

Your idea worked great dowloaded the file, ran it, it found the link and deleted it. Then it walked me throught the rest of the process.

THnaks to all of you for your help.
