This is not specifically an NT question but I'm not sure where to turn for help on it: We have recently reconfigured our netowork to NAT and ever since our Firewall has been registering an IPSpoof of an address that was part of our old IP Addresses. I have checked every machine and printer and cannot find it. The log does give me the MAC address sending the packet.

Is there any way in NT or any utility that can give me the computer name based on the MAC address?

Thanks in advance

HI.

First try to get the ip address using the command
ARP

Then try to get the computer name using:
NBTSTAT
or
PING -a x.x.x.x

On many print server and other networking hardware devices the MAC address is written on a label - so check this also.

At the NT server, check the DHCP and WINS databases, you might find there also more info.

an arp is to map an ip add to a mac address

u need to do a rarp reverse address resolution

this gives known ip address to MAC addresses
