Hello,

I am not really sure if I understand exactly what you mean with "I want to chaneg a webpart on the webpartsite". Where in the SPS does this reside? Is it in the My Site section of the portal?

If it is possible give some more information where you want this change to be done.

I am not a programmer/developer so my I do not have much skills on have to actually do the modification but ányway I will try to be of some help.

Regards,
Thomas

hallo,

thank a lot for your answer.
ok, the webpart reside on mysite. It shows the contact information of employee ( like: telephone number(privat)).Instead of "privat" i want to habe "work". It seems like this webpart is the standardwebpart (from Microsoft).

Because i am new in this topic i don't know how to procede or how to change this webpart.
I know there is webpart catalogue but the problem is to found out the right webpart. So i need to know:
1- how can i get the right webpart?
2- and how can i change it?
3- any infos, which will help me.

thank a lot

Hello,

Frontpage 2003 is a very helpful software when it comes to customisation of SharePoint. Have you played around with it? if not you should try and open the My Site in Frontpage and play around with it, there you might be able to find out how to change the webpart and you might be able to export the webpart or make a template for My Site creations.

But as I said I am not a developer so I have just been playing around a bit with Frontpage doing some customization to our SharePoint Portal and SharePoint Services site.

Thomas

hi kkom,

if you have web designer access you can pull down the "design this page" to design the entire page or pull down the menu of the web part and select "modify web part".

Both these options will allow you to change webparts, but your userid must have web designer authority.

I would personally stay away from using Frontpage to modify Sharepoint sites until you become more familiar with what can and cannot be done in Sharepoint alone. It is very easy to do permanent damage to your site using Frontpage if you're not familiar with it.

Good Luck!

Tom.

Hello,

Tom is absolutely correct! Good point there!

So if you want to play around with FrontPage do that in a test environment or on a test Portal.

As Tom says it is very easy to damage things with FrontPage (Been there Done that). However it is a tool that you "can't live without" when working with SharePoint.

Changing the Public information on My site might not be editable by working with the webinterface though, but just do changes in a test environment.

hallo,

thank you all for your answer.

The site i am try to change is the public site ( which gives the Information about employee. So i could not change it like one could do it whith the private site. So i try to open it in FrontPage and i find out that this Webpart is fullfilled automaticatly.

I found out in "Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\1031\SPS\SPSConfig/PeopleDBloc.xml" the setting (telephone (private)), which is showing on this webpart. So i try to change it but nothing change when i call this website :-((( .
May be i have to install (or something like refresh) this webpart. But i really do not know how to procede.

Do somebody have some Idee: how i should customed this page?
or how should i refresh (what ever) this webpart.

thank,
regards

Hello kkom,

I don't know why I did not think about this before. You can actually change this setting via the Profile Database settings in the Site setting of the portal.

If you go to your portal, site settings
Under "User Profile, Audiences, and Personal Sites" you can chose "Manage Profile Database", View profile properties. There you will see the properties that you can change and Telephone (Home) is one of the properties you can edit.

Thomas
