I've read that I can direct my LPT1 port to a USB port using the NET USE command, but I need to know the IP address for the USB port to do that. Is there a way to find that IP address, or to list all IP addresses assigned on my PC, or a way to assign a local IP address to the USB port?

I've usually been told to RTFM, or "Read The Manual" but as a former technical writer, I know nobody really reads those! That's why I'm asking here.
I have an old DOS program that will only print to LPT ports, and I want to print to my USB printer. On another IT forum (but not tek-tips) I saw someone say you could map LPT1 to the IP address of the USB port, but it didn't say how to find that address. I downloaded a shareware program worth every penny from dosprn.com that I've seen mentioned, but other people couldn't get it to work and neither could I. My next hope is that I can share the printer then use "net use" to map to the share name on my local PC. Anyone know if that works? Thanks!

Usually USB printers emulate LPT ports do they not? So even if you print to LPT1 it should print on your USB printer? Im sure my USB printer at home appears on LPT1 in device manager...I may be mistaken...
I have never heard the suggestion of IP addresses being assigned to USB ports before, i'm almost certain it is not possible...USB ports do not have TCP/IP properies like you get on NIC's, they arn't used as a networking technology after all.

I'm not going to mess with it until the weekend, but maybe the mapping of a local share will work. I'm not too clear on the USB/networking/local device stuff, which is why I tried here. Any additional thoughts or suggestions are welcome, and thanks for the comments!
