FIND in FMP 5.5 stopped working on specific file

Working on a yearly database. 365 records, one for each day. Various data entered into the day. A search to omit empty records on a field (such as "job site") decides that only the 26 records in January match, even though there are many other blank fields. If trying a match on a known value, such as "job site = downtown" it reports no records match request, when that is truly false. Early versions of the database as I was building it found records correctly. A recover attempt makes no difference. Hadn't seen this glitch in FMP before; thoughts on why FIND stopped finding?

TIA

Is it with every find criteria or just one.

How do you do your search ? Scripted or 'manual' ?

Manual search, not scripted. It happens with every criteria. I suspecting the file is corrupt. Finds work perfectly with other files. This file just sees the 31 days of January and bases its find on that no matter what I do. I could even ask it to find a value that I can see in a field yet get "no records match this request." Very odd...

Is it the same when you sript the find/search ?

If it is, try to capture the errorcode in a field.

I'm thinking in the direction of a forced quit of the file somewhere in the past.

What happen if you save a clone no records and import the data ?

I did try saving a clone then importing records, it reacts the same way. Certainly something went amiss, as I saved earlier versions of the file for safety. Those seem to find just right, but don't have the amount of data as the more complete version.

Interesting idea to try and script it. I'll do that ASAP and report the findings.

Thanks.

I suspect corrupt data.

You said you have earlier versions of the file.
Are those file on structure level the same ?

When you try the import, do you get all the records ? or just the 26 ?

You can check this by doing a manual import, in the import screen there is at the left side a button 'Scan Data'.
With this button you can scan data and field names.
Does it loop through the whole set or just the 26 records ?

Your suggestion of running a script seemed to be the key. Yes, I suspect something has corrupted, but when I created a script to do the find, not only did it operate correctly, but afterwards when I tried a manual find, it, too, worked as it should. Hmmm, maybe the script kicked it in the pants??? :)

Thanks for the help. If nothing worked I was going to go ahead and print the data with blank date lines as I do not have time to re-create the file, but now it should look as I had intended.
