How can I find all the hosts on a particular domain, for example I thought I could use dig or host to return all of the hosts on my network such as hostname.domain.com where domain.com is my domain and hostname are the hosts.

You might be able to do a broadcast ping depending on the size of the domain, that would allow you identify IP addresses in your domain then you could lookup (nslookup or dig) for the hostnames.

I'm not aware of any tools to allow you to do exactly what you're asking, it sounds like you expecting the master browser functionality of a Windows domain.

You could try a zone transfer from the bind/named server running for that domain. It may not work, depends upon the security implemented by the zone admin.
