This is happening when backing up shared files on an NT4 server, over the network, with Veritas 10, revision 5484. An example of the log file output is as follows:

Directory MDM MINUTES\Minutes archive\ was not found, or could not be accessed.
None of the files or subdirectories contained within will be backed up.

This seems to be different from all the other threads on this forum involving this error in that this is not an Exchange server we are backing up, or an SQL database, and we don't get any mention of the DO_NOT_REMOVE_NtFrs_PreInstall_Directory. I therefore conclude it is nothing to do with DFS replication. These folders are simple folders containing ordinary files.

Can anyone suggest any other reason I may be getting this failure message?

Regards,
Phil.

Does that directory still exist? If not edit the selection list and switch to text view and remove the entry from the selection list. Most likely it was specifically selected in the jog setup and the folder has been removed/deleted or something and backup exec is still looking for it.

The folder does still exist. That is the strange thing. The permissions are also set ok.

Regards,
Phil

Did you look in the selection list in text view for anything unusual?

What happens if you try to backup that folder in a smaill job?

It fails when I do it as an individual job as well.

I've looked at the folders themselves and it turns out the problem is caused by corruption on the hard disk.

Thanks for your input Steveot.

Phil.

I am having the same problem. The backup fails with fatal exception 0xe00084af, servername\J:\Recycler was not found, or could not be accessed. I've had 2 full backups to fail on this server so I've got to figure this out.

What is the recycler file and is it important? I went into the selection list and unchecked this file so it won't try to back it up.

The recycler is the Trash Bin. I never back it up, but I know some that do.
