check the application log and system log around the same time the backup/error occured. Could be a bad tape or if you see this error using multiple tapes then clean the drive or check into the drive possibly going bad

I have seen this before and it has two causes. 1 Bad tapes (clean the drive as well) 2nd, the tape drive is on its way out. Maybe if you can reduce the throughput to the drive it may help.

Also try a smaller backup and see what happens. In the past I have found when the drive is on its way out it can handle small backups, say 100mb but when a larger one is tried it fails.

Hope this helps.

Yes, I notice that it handles OK on small size of backup.

The CRC error still exist.
I have check the Overland website at
It indicates the casue as following.

Cause: CRC errors usually indicate one of the following:

-- Dirty tape-head,
-- Bad tape,
-- Bad tape drive,
-- Termination or other cabling problems,
-- Bus-termination power, or
-- A problem with the SCSI card on the computer.

FYI.
The Terminator LED is in RED which means SE ACT NEGATION
Aren't the LED should be in GREEN (=LVD)?

I went to Fry's and purchased a Terminator. It displays in Green, but it will freeze Windows 2003. Any idea about the issue?
