Filter Before Reashing Imail

Hi, I have a box running Imail 7.1 and would like to try enhancing the security of virus attacks (attachments) and spams by putting a linux box with some kind of mail filtering and scanning software in front of it. I would like to know what I should do to make this implementation successful.
ie: Mails are able to go through both ways and also filtered and scanned on the linux box.

Internet <==> Linux filter <==> Imail 7.1 <==> User

If you have any 3rd party software that is able to filter spams and virus attachments, please let me know too.

They are very helpful and have cut down virus spreading on all my domains to a minimum.
