I have imported a Logo consisting of splines and lines, I can not for the life of me figure out how to convert it to a shape so it will fill... Can someone help me, my class does not start until the middle of February and this is driving me nuts...

Are you sure it is an Illustrator file and not a freehand eps? I've seen Illustrator open up a simple vignetted Freehand logo as a billion little lines - try opening the file in Freehand and exporting out as an Illustrator file.

It is a DXF file, simplified the paths then greouped them as letters but can not fill them.

Select it all, then go to Object>Expand Appearance and then go to Object>Expand (with fills and strokes selected in the options that open).

With everything selected when I go to Object Expand Appearance nothing happens, then when I go to Expand it show it to have fill on the Appearance menu but is still white

With everything selected when I go to Object Expand Appearance nothing happens

It only appears that nothing happens. (watch your wireframe preview)

Sorry, I forgot one more step at the end. With everything still selected open your Layers Palette and alt-click on 'Add to shape area'

You will now have one filled object.
