FILESERVER RECOVERING PLEASE WAIT!! LOL 1

FOR HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT IS THE QUESTION.. lol

Hello All,
I just joined today after working with the aloha system (25) terms and (1) 2008 Sever. The system has been flawless for the last 6 years; yes it has had its hiccups but I have the technical knowhow to get around issues and always recovered the errors.

However, this weekend our BOH server decided to reboot by windows update. After the server came back up we started getting errors, all terms when down as they should looking for file server, I tried refresh 1 few times, I hard booth the terminals and killed the net switch so the terminals lan would clear out.
Then I notice CtlSvr and the EdcSvr services were missing from the services panel, I tried to re-register them but could not get them to start. I use dameware to manage my systems since it does give you GOD control and features.
We activate a terminal to act as Fileserver Redundancy all terms booted back up and the rest of night had no issues, while I worked on the BOH problem.
We are a BIG night club in Miami called SPACE, we run 16hours.
Once the managers clocked out and pulled there reports I backed all the files from the T1 acting server.
I tried Recover fileserver again and saw T1 responded FILESERVER IS RECOVERING PLEASE WAIT!
GOOD SIGN I THOUGH, IT WAS STUCK ON THAT SCREEN FOR 6 HOURS.
I corrected all the ctlsvr and edcsvr dcomm issues and got them up and running in services…….
BUT what could cause the super long FILESERVER RECOVERING”???????????????????????
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT, THE TECTS AT NCR ARE PERPLEXED and I ended up fixing some thing.

check the date of business in Aloha Manager, make sure its today. then refresh data. HTe reboot server and see if CTLsvr is running. Check your firewall, make sure its off. Now log into Aloha manager and do a file server recovery. It should now recover.

I am very familiar with the Aloha Platform and code.

What you stated above would usually work, but Not in my case. Everytime I put a make a terminal as FILESERVER in redundancy, I use dameware so I can remote logon to all terminal screens (since running around to all 25 term to term in a 2 story 10,000SqFt is NOT FUN.)

So I will watch the term action server, then on the Aloha Manager I would send the recover fileserver, and the term goes to the RECOVERING FILE SERVER PLEASE WAIT....... BUT That term displays that message for more than 12 hours. NCR LEVEL 2 has NO clue; they are dumbfounded .

The DOB on the terms are right and the BOH DOB is right. We can see and ping even reach the terminals with good return...
Tried everything in the book and they have too. escalated to high techs... throwing sh*t like a monkey at this problem right now.

What type of terminals are you using and what version of Aloha are you running?

sorry for the delays' in replying, this issue has me over-consumed - I good tech at NCR gave it his mighty all and even tried a few things from his home as he was just as perplexed as I am. After 4 days of hammering at the machine, he gave up and suggested re-imaging. I;m just going to do a ghost image of current and also live backup all datafiles doing with aloha BOH (translogs and such).

Apparently windows released an mandatory update to patch an issue with their .netframe code, that reached a lot of servers such as mine. And when it rebooted, the update changed something with the security policies or users shares, so thats one theory.

Thanks for the help AlohaRoss. I have 25 Terms and 1 2008 Server DELL Blade, working as a workgroup not domain setting as per aloha. The terminals receive the recover fileserver command and reacts, but does nothing, stays on that screen. other then that, the terms and BOH are not talking, RFS, ctlsvr running with proper permissions.

So start from scratch new OS and have local stage BOH

I would might suggest using/updating the host files which seems to work for our locations.

yeah I tried that too, tried changing the folder permissions..... the server is not even doing its EOD events. I am about to try updating it with a 12 gauge buck shot to its center mass.

Whatever, I made a ghost image of it today, doing a clean install of the OS 2008 and restaging it tomorrow.

I give up.

Plus I have an older dell server that was the BOH and swapped it with the Dell Blade in place now, The old server was stopped 11/2013. I am thinking of cranking her up and adding the current folders/translogs and bring her up to current DOB, and edit aloha.ini date to current. If not, I'll just make an ghost image of the old server and re-image the blade with that that is staged already and have local update file structure.

Regarding the crash, Check and make sure RFS service has the correct username and password associated to it on the BOH that the FOH also uses, the access denied error could be due to a username being locked out or some sort of permission issue where RFS is not authenticating


Post the debout entry on the master terminal when you attempt to recover should look something like


"Received recovery request something something something"



Although the RFS issue could very well be why the FS recovery is failing.
