When I click My Computer on the desk top, click the C drive I have 347(486 MB)of them listed there. What are they and why are they located there? How do I get rid of them?

Thanks,
Will

MSI is typically the Microsoft Installer.
TMP usually means Temporary.

Possibly security patches or programs you have been trying to install? Though typically they shouldnt be in the root of C:. I take it they are files and not folders?

You might be able to delete them safely, but you might want to take a backup of your data first just in case.

Sorry, they are folders and taking up a lot of space (486mb). When I try to delete I get the message access denied, source file may be in use. More likely they are IE's temp. Very helpful info dhawthorn.

Why are they located on the C drive? They just look out of place to me. And as I said, they denied me access when I'm logged in as the Administrator?

Thanks,
Will

Policekauk,
boot in safe mode and see if you can remove.
any spyware/malware/virii on the pc?
regards,
longhair

Longhair,

No spyware/malware/virus. Have double virus protection that seems to work well. Never hit by an infection. Have a firewall and Roadrunner that I hope i'm hide behind. I run Spybot S&D often and Ad-Aware SE. Run SpamBayes and XoftSpy. I'll try the safe mode.

Thanks

Can you delete any of them? (Like one at a time?)

Sometimes selecting them all at the same time and hitting DEL will try and delete the first one, which, if in use, will stop the entire delete operation.

My first guess would be they are Windows Update patches pending install, but without knowing more information (like what they contain) I couldn't say for sure.

Have you tried deleting them immediately after a reboot?
